4 content marketing tools to drive success in a remote workplace
In the last two years we’ve adapted to working remotely and while most marketing jobs can be done anywhere with an internet connection, remote work has posed some challenges for marketing teams. Fortunately, with some good planning and investment into quality tools, marketing teams can overcome these challenges to create amazing content.
Below are some of my favorite content marketing tools that keep teams successful – no matter if they’re in an office together or working across time zones.
Online collaboration hub
One major key to success among content marketing teams, especially in a remote environment, is having one shared source of truth. Whether you use Google Drive, Microsoft Sharepoint, or a project management tool like Basecamp, it’s important to have one spot that houses the latest version of any document or content piece you’re working on.
To get the most out of these tools you should have the ability to add comments, sticky notes, or conversations about the document in question. It can also be good to have historical data or the ability to view previous versions to track all changes made.
Another thing that belongs in your hub is an internal resources folder that shows examples of past blogs, emails, print pieces, banner ads, etc. for new employees to get familiar with the company’s branding and replicate successful campaigns.
Templated workflows
Don’t recreate the wheel when you don’t have to! Save your content team time and stress by having templated workflows or project briefs so no step gets missed and everyone’s on the same page about what the project is and who’s responsible for what.
Project management tools like Basecamp allow you to make master templates that can be cloned so every project has the right steps attached to it. Plus you can assign certain tasks to certain people and assign deadlines for a timely delivery.
Instant messaging apps
Slack or Teams can help team members quickly get answers they need about certain pieces of content or to request changes. These messaging apps can also help teammates bond outside of the work they’re doing to recreate watercooler chat or those side conversations after meetings conclude.
With our remote working world, we often feel like we’re always on or always have to be available but letting teammates mark themselves as unavailable or put on do not disturb can provide a boost to your team’s productivity as people can go heads-down to get work done and respond to messages when they have the bandwidth.
Videoconferencing software
Screensharing through videoconferencing is a total lifesaver for remote teams to get on the same page if issues arise. I love screensharing so people with the required technical know-how can help troubleshoot or I can walk a designer through my ideas for design changes.
Videoconferencing apps are also good for regularly scheduled meetings about projects and can recreate that in-office atmosphere when video is enabled.
